The heads on my old Norelco 5801XL had worn out. I was almost at the point of scraping my stubble off, so obviously it was time to replace them. The trouble was they were getting almost impossible to find locally. All part of forced obsolescence I guess. I don't like buying new models unless there is a need. I figured in this case that there was a justification and bought this model since it wasn't much more than the cost of a replacement head anyway. I have to say that I was surprised that this was actually quieter than my older Norelco considering it's one of their lower end models. I would've liked a model that had a proper 'battery full' charging light and corded operation but you have to buy one of their higher models in this range to get that. I don't see the point in paying double for a model that will give you the same shave, as apart from extra features, it would've had the same shaving head so I can live with it's minor limitations. All in all I consider this a great buy. Oh, and it gives me a great shave too! Update: I have to say that after a using this for a while, I find the charge doesn't seem to last anywhere as long as my other Norelco which is in agreement with some other reviews on amazon. The red light seems to come on too soon. I actually let it run down after the red light came on to see how long it would take and it stopped after 31 minutes which means you still have a few shaves left once the light turns on so the light is fairly conservative.
